A whole front page tells the table what the town is talking about. A single clipping tells them what somebody thought was worth cutting out and keeping, which is a different and usually more interesting question.
The paper and the date, a headline, a subhead, an optional photo with its caption, the story itself and a pencilled note at the foot. The edge is ragged, as scissors leave it, and the page around it prints white. An empty field prints nothing, so a clipping without a photo simply has no photo.
The 1920s skin is yellowed newsprint in an old-style face. Eastern Bloc is a grey party daily with a red rule over the headline. Modern is a local weekly in plain type. Archive card pastes the 1920s clipping onto buff card, with a library stamp at the top and a typed catalogue number underneath.
