A proclamation is how whoever rules talks to everybody at once. It is pasted to a wall, read from twenty feet away, and it tells the players that the world has just changed its rules.
The page is A4 and also exports at A3 for the wall. At the top stands the authority and a title in type as large as the sheet will take; then the preamble, the numbered articles, the penalty for disobeying them, the place and date, the signature and a stamp you drag where it belongs: an ink stamp, an oblong one, an embossed seal or a hologram, never wax.
Royal proclamation is a regent’s decree off the Crown’s own press, black and red on laid paper with a woodcut initial. Colony curfew is a security directive laser-printed for every lift and hatch of a mining colony, in black and safety yellow. Evacuation order is a present-day county notice with a red warning band, the kind stapled to telegraph poles an hour before the roadblocks go up. Quarantine placard is a health department’s card from 1928, nailed up in Innsmouth in wood type on yellow stock.
The bounty on the man the proclamation names is a Poster, and the newspaper that reported it the next morning is the Newspaper.
